Re: [Harp-L] Koko

I'm sorry to hear of Kok Taylor's passing.

I remember being a teenager (probably out on a school night) in about 1970 seeing Willie Dixon, with Walter Horton on harmonica and the dazzling but underrated Lafayette Leake on piano (that's him playing organ on Sonny Boy's "Help Me" and "Bye Bye Bird"). At one point Willie introduced a "young lady" who came out and absolutely tore up and burned down "I got 29 ways to get to my baby's door."

It was one of those breathtaking and unexpected moments where everyone just went "Who *WAS* that?" I don't remember WIllie saying her name, but later I learned that it was Koko Taylor. Ever since then, I've had a little star next to her name in my pantheon of absolutely righteous musicians who bring it with them when they come.
