Buy the Fireball V. It has much better bass response than the original, and it has a volume control. What's not to like?
I own an original Fireball with the V element installed, which is just a more expensive way to get a Fireball V. Get the V.
Regarding your first question, yes, the Fireball V is a supreme mic for a loud, clear, very musical sound. I can't think of a better mic for that purpose.
