[Harp-L] Frank McCourt plays harmonica
The American writer Frank McCourt (also a native New Yorker) and famed
author of "Angela's Ashes," "'Tis," and "Teacherman" was a harmonica player from
when he was a youngster.
He died last weekend.
He taught high school English in New York City for about 30 years and when
he was teaching writing, he used to have the kids sing songs on Thursdays
(to get them into poetry) and play along on his harmonica. He wrote the books
after he retired. He had about 22 years in retirement, not a bad way to
finish out a life.
This clip shows him playing an Irish tune on his diatonic and talking about
his harmonica playing.
