Re: [Harp-L] Laugh in your Face !

I'd probably walk out. I don't tolerate any B.S. from sales-people of any kind.

On the inside, I'd sigh and feel a little bad that the harmonica gets such a bad rap. Why does everybody always ask me, "What else do you play?", then back-pedal and apologize like crazy when I ask them why the harmonica isn't enough. I get frustrated, but it's a really difficult battle to fight. The masses really don't expect much of harmonica.

How do I break it to the girl at work that the "jammin' harmonica" she heard at the Coldplay concert was really sloppy, shrill, and generally lacking in any musical quality? She had fun, so if I say something, then I'm just an ass.

I get by with the words of Rick Estrin (I put this question to him directly). I asked him if it bothered him that the world often looks down on the harmonica. He said, "Man, sometimes what's cool isn't for everybody. McDonald's is for everybody".
