RE: [Harp-L] Jason Ricci Revue from Orlando Blues Society - OBBS

Have a search on archive.org for his show in Jacksonville on Halloween eve 2008. I recorded it.
He can get in that Derek Trucks, Dead vein easily and did that night. Slow night, few in audience.
Soft music and nice dynamics with the drummer. This guy is NOT a one trick pony. He'd cut your head or anyone else's wide open, if and I stress IF he were that kind of guy.
He's not. I've found him humble, helpful, respectful and sharing - an amazing thing for a guy with such an immense talent, and for someone cutting new ground. These boundary stretchers are usually raucous and self centered, like some of our musical heros have likely been. He takes time to give back, to me like few others, other than maybe Adam Gussow.

I didn't make it to the show but I have been out listening to some of the You tube and have heard his newer stuff on Bluesville and he seems to have gone a bit more bluesy and no doubt the guy can play, play, play!

Two things and I think only two things really turn me off with his music. 1) the psychotic screams that come out on occasion. 2) playing the same riff for 4 minutes of an otherwise stunning 9 minute solo.

In other words, drop some of the Nine Inch Nails shit and go a bit more towards The Dead, Derek Trucks, et. al. and then hit the Jam scene. That is a formula that will work and it seems like the latest CD is a big step in the right direction.
