For live performances and studio recording I actually prefer the line out on
my 5F2H by Mission Amps.

But when I do use a microphone...

-Live Shows:  I use a Shure 57 positioned about two thirds of the the way
from the center of the speaker to the edge.  The mic is angled off-axis,
pointed slighly toward the edge of the speaker, about an inch from the grill
cloth.  But then, I like a slightly crunchy tone, so you may prefer a
different positioning of the mic.

-In Studio:  Usually an good AT condensor mic about two feet in front of the
amp, slightly off axis on the speaker.
