[Harp-L] enforcing overtones / harmonics (long)

Ralf,

The breaking of this new ground has been started on harmonica:

Mr. Harmonica Jouko Kyhälä steps out from his work with worlds's top .... reed of the harmonica so that you can clearly distinguish different overtones. ...

My 2 cents worth:

Practice harmonic overtone singing techniques, then... *obligatory harmonica content* ... apply them with harmonica in mouth.

It's a good way to use blown-out harps, as you only need one note.

As a starting point here are some pretty clear explanations:

A n introductory lesson in overtone singing by master Tran Quang Hai on Youtube:

This guy is a real wizard with overtones on jew's harp and in singing; here, he demonstrates singing high-pitched overtones with no audible drone:

Apply this to harmonica.

Next, the technological interface:

Try innovative didgeridoo wiz and 'inventor' of the dijeribone Charlie McMahon's mic techniques:

For a Bluesman's take on throat singing, see Paul Pena's remarkable journey in the movie 'Ghenghis Blues' or listen to the soundtrack CD.

Regards,

Marc
