[Harp-L] Re:This weekend's messages...

I just got back from trippin' in the Fl Keys.

Got some sun on my skin - I'm not a tourist so I'm not red like a Maine
Lobster cooked and ready to eat, but I feel the tingle. Nice.

I'll go through the recent posts here.

Abner, not ignoring. Just got back.

I'll add some to the review. Jason is showing a lot of courage.
Songwriting and baring of inner soft spots... I told him I thought he was
pretty brave about that stuff... he said, "I have to be." It's about being
human and living an authentic life. We talked a little bit about that sort
of. Also I caught a bit of reminisscence to Jim Morrison in some of the
vocals. I dunno if it's intentional... don't care. Also the shuffle on
Friday afternoon "Happy Hour Set" was over the top! A solo from Jason that
lasted several minutes before the band kicked in. Makes me want to start
walking to the store for groceries again. I used to do alot of walking when
I was a young pup of 22... it was a great time for woodshedding, and I used
to do a bit of similar shuffle stuff, but not anything near the stuff Jason
did yesterday. Blew me away!

So, alot of the same tunes from Tuesday at Boston's.

when will he be back in the area to touch my soul again, for I am now, a
believer?

They do Florida three times a year. They're going up to Tampa, Orlando,
Cocoa Beach this week before heading thru Tally to Mississippi...

I spent 10 months as a hobo before joining the navy and in that time
I saw MANY of the greats. While they still breathed. I hav played
harp a long time. It still doesn't qualify me on the subject.

Having said all that, I don't look at Jason as strictly a blues
player. I see him as a GENIUS. Yes, it took him a lot of time and
work to get to this point. He wasn't always good and maybe if I had
known him earlier, I would say something like: "He's come a long
way". But it didn't happen that way. I saw him SUDDENLY and I was M E
S M E R I Z E D. And I gotta tell you, with the exception of maybe
Roscoe Selley, that ain't happened often with me.
--------------------
I grew up "white" in a house of "white" civil rights activists. Early '60s
and it was dangerous. My Mom was good friends with Les Brown (Band of
Renown) and my Dad was in the NAACP when it could mean a cross burning in
our yard. My Dad knew when the greats were in town and they couldn't even
go thru the front door of the Diplomat or Fontainbleu. Louis and Ella had
to come in through the back door kitchen. Sammy too. After they did their
shows for the "white folks" they would go to the "hood" and play all night
long. My Dad took me to see them all, little white boy wearing my suit and
tie., and quite a few came back to our house. Playing cards in our back
room in the wee hours till the sun came up. I got to see them as real
people. They acted like jerks sometimes. The got drunk (and other things)
and also were wonderfully generous. The one thing all the greats I met had
in common was honesty to the craft. They took it seriously when they
practiced and when they played. No exceptions. No slackers allowed. I
won't go into a list of the musicians I have met... most probably wouldn't
believe me anywway.

When I watch Jason, I see the hardest working honest effort equal to any of
them ODBGs. Maybe even more. Period! He has found his path. And I infer
that he is compelled to follow it. Something when I was presented with a
similar choice, some 25+/- years ago, I chose domestic life instead. No
regrets, but I know now what the difference is. Back then I didn't have a
clue. Kudos and Props to Jason for going after it! So Mote It Be!

Once again, I think you're all being a bunch of blow hards.

Blow hard, suck hard. That way you don't run out of breath during the solo.

audio-technica DR-1000 which
I finally got out to a club on Wednesday. Cheap and old as it is it
worked fine with my high impedance bullet and Premier amp- For 5
minutes until the cacophony of cabs and police car sounds came through
in a static-y roar.

I was going to suggest asking Jason what he was using, but in the middle of
the "Happy Hour" set Friday, his wireless quit and he plugged into a cable.
Oh well.

I've reserved the best for the end: I've had the occasion to see by
myself how Greg Heumann from Blowsmeaway Productions is working......

Congrats Abner on your coming Kalamazoo from Greg. I know you will love it.
Peace, Bro... hope to see you again soon... maybe on Wednesday.

Hello all I'm new to the harmonica and the list. I've been silently lurking
on the

Welcome Nick. We are truly blessed. The knowledge and talent assembled
here continuously reminds me of my purpose and of the never ending journey
toward my true destiny, as a musician as well as a human being. Glad you're
coming along with me/us.

Reminds me of an interview with Gregg Braden and also of a clip telling
about the mystery of the Universe which responds to our consciousness.
Whenever we look for something, the Universe creates something for us to
find.... Max Planck and the Intellegent Mind that is the Matrix of All

One day I told the MD... A black man... born in England, of Youruba

I said:

"Andrew I HATE Racists"

Andrew replied:

"Don't worry John, Racists HATE you too".

See the section at the top of this post. I was rased in a Civil Rights
activist family. I was the little "N*****r-Lover!" when I was in grade
school. Good for me that I knew the difference between right and wrong...
and I had read the Declaration of Independence (4th of July today... may be
time to read it again, huh?) and actually believed what it said about all
men being equal... and the creator etc. So many racists claim to love
America but hate what America stands for... Nuff sed!

......... Hey Dave. It's all a work in progress anyway, right?
If you play on your porch, in a park, etc. enough, you develop this sense of
what music is about.
................. All my old jammin buddies have moved to geographical
locations that make it hard to have those old porch jams. I still get
around to their locations, but getting us all back in one place at the same
time is a modern no-way. I still turn things up here and give my neighbors
a solo concert from time to time, but it's definitely not the same. You're
blessed Dave to have a community happening like that! Rock on!

PEACE Y'all!
Be careful with the fireworks tonight,
and it's time to fire up the BBQ grill over here
and have some golden colden beverage.
