This is not meant as meta discussion. During the 1930's and early 1940's my
uncles were small time professional musicians on the barn dance, beer joint,
house party circuit in Eastern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas. When I was
younger, they tried to pass along their musical heritage to me but I refused
to listen to "that hillbilly crap." I was an old man before I began
recognizing the blues and swing licks in what little they were able to teach
me. They were gone before I realized what a rich heritage they were trying
to pass on and ever since, I have tried to pick up bits and pieces of it. I
would be very grateful to hear and learn from a POLITE discussion of the
country, bluegrass, etc. roots of some of our blues standards and the mutual
influence of both genre's on each other.
