Works great in a band setting, but not an "in yo face" volume band setting. 
 
Nneena Freelon used to travel with a first class back up band, road tested  
and tweaked over a number of years to divine understated perfection. They used 
a  Melodica to great effect in a few songs - not too many, mind you, but it 
was the  perfect sound for a few understated tunes.
