Re: [Harp-L] John Sebastian, Jr.

One of the problems with recognizing Sebastian senior is that his recordings are so hard to find, so few people get to hear him. The reproduction rights to his recordings are probably available if some small specialty company were interested . . .

Also, Sebastian senior also did not create the impression that Adler did - the showmanship, the colorful stories, self-mythologizing, and so on. Nor did he - to my knowledge - make successful pop recordings the way Adler did, to showcase his playing to a wider audience.

As always, being an excellent musician is not always enough to make a reputation or a career, especially so for a player of a "miscellaneous" instrument.

John Sebastian, Jr. is a great player as was his father in the classical world.
I am working on the Tcherepnin Harmoncia Concerto as we speak, and John, Sr. is
terrific. I have played concerts with John, Jr. and he is a great guitar and
harmonica player on the diatonic. Rob Paparozzi can tell you of his playing.

John, Jr. deserves a lot of respect and his father does as well. I really have
pushed SPAH to honor his father, not just Adler, as the finest classical player
of the pioneers.
