I use a Peterson VS-II virtual strobe. This is easily portable, and gives me the kind of helpful detail I can't seem to get from a needle or LED based tuner.
It stores multiple temperaments, but I prefer to work with offsets from 12TET.
I can set the pitch level in tenths of a Hertz, and I can set offsets in cents from that. So if I want to tune a harp to 19-limit just at A=441.5 Hz, I can set the pitch level globally, then for the note I'm working on, I can offset it 2 cents sharp, 14 cents flat, or whatever, and tune to that.
The virtual strobe display can be very helpful in tuning octaves, as you can see a visual representation of what's in or out of tune between the two notes. It's helped me train my ear to detect minute amounts of sharp of flat on a particular note, where before all I could hear was in or out of tune.
Why this specific model? It was available used on eBay at a good price.
