[Harp-L] Re: Thorens Harmonicas

Hello, Thorens fans.

About a week ago, someone here at Harp-L asked about Thorens harmonicas.
Here's some information, provided by Rich Nielsen of Harmonica Collectors
International (HCI), in the Trumpet Call, the quarterly newsletter of HCI. This was
published in the June 2008 issue of the Trumpet Call. This was edited from
Nielsen's article:

Thorens is presently a Swiss manufacturer of high-end audio equipment. They
have also made phonograph turntables, and other audio playback equipment. And
in the past they were known as a manufacturer of high quality harmonicas.

The Thorens family business was first registered in Sainte-Croix
Switzerland, in 1883. They were listed as
manufacturers of music boxes and clockmakers, and started making Edison-type
phonographs in 1903.

>From 1913-1964, Thorens made cigarette lighters.

>From 1914-1921, and 1938-1952, Thorens was famous for it's harmonicas.

Thorens made tremolos, octave harps, 10-hole Richter diatonics, 10-hole and
12-hole slide chromatics, and four-key tremolo harps.

HCI is a valuable source for antique harmonica information. For more
