"Yerxa" is an American spelling; nothing exotic about it. It's designed to be pronounced pretty much the way it looks:
YURK-suh
(though I rather like the way Scots tend to pronounce it: Yehrrrrrrr-xa)
People named Yerxa (or, as it was spelled then, Jurckxsem) were inhabitants of the Dutch colony in old New York (1600's) but I'm pretty sure the name originated in Friesland, a northern part of Holland where people have their own language and surnames.
