Re: [Harp-L] Harmonica Honker
Steve,
I use the HH, but primarily for the convenience. I run on the "clean"
setting most of the time, which is actually clean. I don't know much
about "fattening", but I like the tone I can get out of the mike. I also
use a Kinder AFB+, which I believe has an effect on my tone as well.
Another influence on my tone is achieved by using a small amp (tube
champ) turned up to max volume and close-miked into the PA. The band
with which I work does some purely acoustic work, but my setup is the
same for both acoustic and loud obnoxious rock.
But as I said, it is primarily convenience for which I find the HH good
for me. I can concentrate on handling the harmonica since the microphone
is on my finger, and I find muting and unmuting effects particularly
easy to achieve with it, pretty much like I can do in a studio standing
in front of a good mike.
One other thing you might want to look into: I understand that Hohner
now has a small wireless mike that appears to have the convenience of
the HH. I have not seen or handled one yet, as my local Guitar Center
does not handle it. (It is in the GC's online catalog, however.) I would
welcome any comments from anyone who has had the opportunity to compare
the Hohner and the HH.
