I have a 1961 Ampeg "Rocket", that is similar. Mine is in the early blue
sparkle tolex with 2 6V6s, 2 6SL7 preamp and a 5Y3 rectifier tube. I
replace a weak Jensen with a Weber 12F150. It definitely has a sweat spot
where it is a snarling beast. I think they were competition for Fender's
tweed Deluxe but are far better for harp. I think the octal preamp tubes
have a much fatter sound without doing any swapping. Of note is the bar
across the speaker cutout that is part of the baffle. It acts like a beam
blocker. NOT FOR SALE!!!!!

Subject: [Harp-L] Ampeg "Jet" amp
I have been playing around with an Ampeg "Jet" tube amp that I borrowed
for a recording session from my buddy who is a pro harper. I told him I
need a really dirty sound for a couple of the tunes on our new CD and he
hooked me up with this amp and a pistol grip Shure 540 mic. Tone knob all
the way off - no tremelo. single 12" Jensen speaker. I think it's been
modded for harp, but not sure.
All I can say is this little amp is an absolute monster - I've never heard
of this model before. But now I want one! Anyone know about these? have
one for sale? my buddy would never part with it and now I know why. This
little amp is one filthy, nasty, bad mofo. I kept thinking the police
would show up as I was practicing with it today. Couldn't get past 3 on
the volume knob. fedback like crazy.
Let me know if anyone knows anything about this amp. Thanks
Ross Macdonald
