My aren't either, I have a sneaking suspicion that expected standards of school attire might be higher in Cuba than in wealthier more liberal countries.

I suspected the same. Look into one of OUR school yards. There are some creepy kids there. BUT, they are our kids after all, and we still love them :)

Also I know we generally think of harmonicas as inexpensive instruments but because of Cuba's historic economic isolation, I bet they're quite expensive and hard to get hold of over there. That's not to disparage this work which is excellent methinks.

I would sooner give to a program like these than what we have here. I never believed in shoving harps on kids just to make a point. I mean, how many stay with it. In these clips, it looked as if these youngsters actually wanted to be there. I always felt that it was the child who should make the decision of IF they were interested. And I think in lesser economies, they WOULD be more interested.

Nice to see a guy using harmonicas to work with underprivileged kids. As
we've seen, the inexpensiveness of our instrument can be both a blessing and
a curse. In this case, it allows someone access to people who probably
wouldn't be able to afford any other kind of instrument. Kids that don't
have video games, cable TV, and a slew of other stuff competing for their
time.
The first clip takes place in Cuba, a country where the harmonica
has almost been extinct for many years:

The second clip is from Argentina, same harmonica teacher:

Happy holidays to all my fellow reed players!
