[Harp-L] traveling with instruments

Carry on is my normal mode because I don't want the hassle of a lost checked bag and don't want to wait around waiting for them. I always tell the screener about the harps in my bag and have only once out of 15 or so times had to show the harps. Just returned thisTuesday from a visit in Florida with my Brother and went right through on the outbound flight from Newark, NJ. On the return from Orlando the security check was again painless but there was no more room on the plane for my carry on and I was forced to check it. I wasn't happy and should have pulled my camera case with the harps in it and carried them on but was being rushed and didn't. After getting seated I realized what I should have done and began thinking of all the things that could go wrong. If the plane went into a death dive I wouldn't have been able to play Amazing Grace and Taps for the horrified  passengers, or one of the baggage handlers would have a nice camera and some cool harps
for Christmas after going through my bag. Did my bag end up in Topeka never to be seen again? No, everything worked out fine after a short wait at the baggage merrygoround. Speaking of merry, may your Holiday be merry and your music be bright.
