This is an interesting possibility. However, the same medallion-with-star (or rosette) appeared on many different models of both diatonic and chromatic, not just the Marine Band. And I'm not sure that the six-pointed star was the first version of the star to appear; I've heard that the number of points varied over time.

The most plausible explanation as to why a six pointed star originally existed on the Marine Band harmonica probably had to do with the six pointed Star of Damascus that appeared on Marine Corps commissioned officer's swords. Check out: http://www.usna.org/swords.html
