Re: [Harp-L] Howling Dog

If it were my dog, I would use an electronic collar that delivers a harmless but unpleasant sensation activated by a remote controller.

I would start playing a long way away from him and zap him briefly when he starts to howl. Then play closer and closer. It should not take long for him to catch on that his howling is unwelcome. After that, you might also give him a small treat every time you play....but not if he starts to howl.

Sadly, you can't just explain it to him.

(I can't resist this one)
I had that problem once. My wife fixed that problem by making me drink a
shot of "Jack Daniels" every time I howled. Now I only howl during a full
moon.
Take it from me, don't discourage his howling when you play...eventually
he'll howl in the same key.

Not Howling Wolf...a howling dog. I got a new dog 5 weeks ago and every
time I play harp he howls like a screaming banshee. It doesn't seem to
bother him or hurt his ears, he just sings along, but he makes it hard for
me to rehearse or relax and enjoy playing.

Has anyone else had a howling dog? Any training ideas (other than the
inconvenience of putting him in the garage every time i want to play)?
Thanks..
