The mayor did not actually play any of the harmonicas - at least not that I heard; I was backstage several yards away helping prepare the performers to go on.

Getting the mayor of the hosting town is an unusual occurrence at SPAH. For this we have to thank Bud Gardner, Head Coot of the Harmonicoots, the hosting club. Bud first set his sights on Governor Schwarzenegger, bu the Governator was too busy wrangling with California's intractable budget crisis. Happily, Mayor Johnson was a good sport and  genial presence who brought some style and official recognition to the event.

the Mayor used to play... as a guard in the NBA for the Phoenix Suns.  Good to see him out to support events in his town... especially harmonica related events. Is an appearance by the host city mayor a usual occurrence at SPAH?  There are a lot of great pix there.  Thanks Rich Baum, you've got a real talent.  That's a cool look Will Scarlett's got going on.
