[Harp-L] RE: Woodstock/harp


I've been busy and haven't been on here for quite a while but started catching up on posts recently. With all the hype about the 40th anniversary of Woodstock there has been a lot of info and articles recently. In last Sunday's San Francisco Chronicle there was a discussion with Paul Kantner, Country Joe, and Michael Carabello of Santana reminiscing about the event. Most of them hung around for a week or so in the area. Apparently the Butterfield Blues Band had a gig at a local bar for a while around that time. One of them said most of the musicians who came to Woodstock before the festival ended up at this club and there were some of the best jams, with people who would never otherwise meet or play together. I had never heard this story before. Too bad this was before YouTube. I have no idea if anything was ever recorded or available but it would be fun to hear some of it.

There's some Butterfield songs too aren't there? Can you say which ones
and how good the audio/video are?

I think I saw something about there being some Canned Heat on the Target
version too.

others have their *own* special collectors ultimate blah editions
with different songs on them. what a mess and pita this is.

and to top it off, they re-recorded and overdubbed some of the
performances with new stuff!! some say this is "fixing problems" but
I say it's "BS" because now i'm listening to some music that was
played in 2008, not 1969 and being heard over a visual of musicians
supposedly playing that music. wth is up with that, unbelievable. and
this was done by the original audio engineer who was there that day
(michael kramer)!

but still, anyone who can fill us in on the harp content of various
editions would be great. aside from canned heat, any other harp
that's in the new editions, such as any in CCR's set or others?

The Butterfield song is, " Morning Sunrise". No harp; it's his second
generation band with the big horn section. The audio and video are very
good. That said I'm also doing everything I can to maximize the experience.
Quality 1080p TV, HDMI cable, upgrade DVD player and pumped through my
surround sound system.
