Speaking as a fanatical close-reed-tolerance proponent, I must also admit
that, at times, for some players, it can be a handicap. For example, players
who do not overbend, and have a hard attack, can find the resulting choking
to be very frustrating.
Also consider that tight gaps are more likely to gunk up with krud. (Excuse
the technical jargon.)
I dare say that there is no one solitary harp, nor one setup that can serve
all players under all circumstances, styles, seasons, and phases of the
moon.
