Re: [Harp-L] ear plugs
I'm a huge proponent of ear plugs. My ears ring constantly because I was too ignorant to realize the damage I was causing when I was younger. (I'm 33 now, a real old timer.) I have the custom plugs, and I think I have the 15db filters. I won't play w/o them unless it's an acoustic show.
There's a certain amount of nuance lost, but I can hear mostly everything. Heck, I even wear them to the movies. They do a great job of cutting down the volume w/o sounding so muffled. They take getting used to, but it beats having to get used to the constant ringing noise that I hear in a quiet room.
Seriously guys. Call up an audiologist, get tested, then fit for musicians plugs, and then just start using them. You'll be glad you did.

I wear my molded ear plugs at every rehearsal. They come in three reductions, 9 d.b., 15 d.b. and 25 d.b. I use the 9 mostly. It cuts it enough. Sometimes i loosen one a little to bleed the room in a little. on stage, we have in-ear monitors. they are expensive, but work really well, with individual volume controls.

Apparently the keyboard man hasn't gotten the message as the club where he plays has lowered the play times from 8-11 down to 7-10, and NOW 6:30 till 9:30. All because the high rise apartment dwellers across the channel from the marina were complaining about the noise and the time was lowered to get UNDER the noise curfew (which is 9:30).

S'okey because I can do the tunes by rote, and if it's something tricky, I will peek at the chart to make sure I'm still on track. You have to be careful though because if you are playing without hearing well, you have to keep the chromo up to your lips or you could find yourself on the wrong hole.
