I know a little about harmonica demographics in Asia.

The Asia Pacific Harmonica festival is held every two years, and attract 
arounds 1500 competitors. The focus is on competitons, there are many 
categories all well organised. I was a judge at the most recent one, in 
HangZhou China November 2008. PT Gazell was there as well. The next one 
is in Singapore 2010.

Regarding websites, I have a diatonic harmonica teaching site in China, 
at htpp://www.kouqin.com.cn It has over 36000 members.
