After recent bad experiences with amp technicians' services,
I have received a recommendation for a skilled tech.
"Dave Oxborrow".
He's specialised in guitar amps, knows tubes well, and we've
struck a bargain. He gets a load of my "spares", including the
notorious 4 x 450W 10" speakers, the ill-fated Laney 50W amp,
now with wiring reconnected and new fixing screws in place,
and a non-working tube preamp and a tube amp chassis.
I get a tube harp amp all set-up for my 520DX with the R198 cartridge
and have to make the cabinet and fit the speaker.
(Bonus: My wife gets more space in the house).
Dave's thinking of a single valve preamp stage, and push-pull EL84s (though
I'd like 6V6's :) and no negative feedback.
The web has lots of good technical data, but from a player's point of view
there's not a lot of info.
Can anyone please help with some specific do's and don'ts, and list
properties you'd like to see in a "from-scratch" harp amp?.
Best Regards Geoff Atkins
