I could not agree more with Elizabeth. I have attended Howards seminars, face to face live,
and also most recently,Howard gave a free live performance at the Greenwich library with
Trio Globo-his world music band, featuring Eugene Freisen on cello, and Glen Velez on various types of percussion. Eugene and Glen are members of The Paul Winter Consort.
Personally,I think this the true setting in which Howard should be heard.
He played most of the concert playing piano and harmonica simultainiously-somtimes playing paino wiht his left hand, harp with right-sometimes switch-playing piano with right and harp with left.
At one point,Howard reached inside the piano, whikle playing harp, and played the strings inside the piano!!
So ,you see,Howard truly is a musical prodigy-not unlke Coltrane,Pastorius,Hendrix or many other musicians. I does not matter if you care for his playing or not-Howard loves to play music-whether solo, with a full band, with a full orchestra-bottom line is Howard loves to listento and play music.
Howard performed Amazing Grace at the performance I attended-he dedictaed it to Paul Butterfield, performing a more bluesey version to start0then into the traditional version mid-way.
You must see him live to fully appreciate his music.
Howard also was using a $5000.00 Sennheiser microphone that evening-and people talk about
crystal, ceramic,cm or cr elements in $250.00-$300.00 mic shells.
