You're polishing a large area and not really taking that much metal off. I don't really do it. It is easier for me to replace a reed than polish 20 of them. Rupert Oysler, on his video, has this process he calls "reed flattening" I always thought of it as more of a polishing. He just applies pressure with a smooth object and "massages" the reed back and forth.

What do you use to do the polishing? You don't want to be de-tuning the reed
at the same time.
