Re: [Harp-L] tuning permanent blue thirds
If you want a naturally occurring flat 3rd, why not play in 3rd or 5th position, where this is already the case?

I use it plenty, I hit the E a lot when the chord changes to the C (IV) chord and it's part of the IV chord itself, which I play.
The two cons I see are the loss of the C chord and the loss of a pure E, you could get it, but you'd have to bend deep to get it.
You also lose that double stop E and G you have that goes with the Em chord.
If you just do it to one reed, you lose your octave.
Otherwise, it sounds cool and you would gain a C minor chord. If I ever get time to actually work on something for myself, I'll probably try it. I'm wondering about the possibilities of third position here also if you Paddyified it as well and sharped the 3 blow to an A.
I played a C Eb A on the chromatic just now and tried to put them together in my head.... it sounds like it would be a cool sound the three of those, but whether that will fit in the key of G, I don't know.
I've had an idea along this same line, too, but for first position, flat notes in the middle. That's something I will do for sure one of these days.

Subject: [Harp-L] tuning permanent blue thirds
I am sure that im not the first one to think about this but i'd like some
opinions on the pros and cons.
To set up (say) a C harp for purely pentonic blues in 2nd position only,
why not drop the blow E notes down to give a permanent blue third.(not a
whole semitone)
Or maybe just on blow 8?
I mean the pure E seems to be basically unused right through the 1 1V V
progressions.
Thoughts?
