I wouldn't use duct tape at all. Use black electrical tape for safe
application and removal when the grill needs to be replaced or any work must
be done. Duct tape will make your grill an absolute prisoner to the stem of
that SM57. And, if you like the SM57, you should love the SM545 or SM535.
Same feel, but possibly more response, and greater dynamics. Tom E. and
Steve Warner are the experts with vintage supply. Steve does masterful work
on the SM545 changing the originals from the 4 prong amphsol(sp)to any more
convenient connection, like 1/4 inch, etc.
