Didn't you ever see The Who in concert?  The front man, Roger Daltrey, would
frequently grab his mic cable and whip the microphone around over his head
like a lasso, or as if he were David about to slay Goliath.  His SM58 mic
and the first bit of cable were wrapped thickly in what looked like duct
tape, presumably to keep it from flying off the XLR connector and beaning a
fan or bandmate.  I doubt it had anything to do with handling noise, since
the Shure SM58 does not suffer from that.

The SM57, however, does introduce some handling noise from the movable
grill.  I'm wondering if anybody has employed a simple fix, such as even
hitting it with a bit of duct tape of something else to keep the grill
from moving around.
