[Harp-L] Shure SM57 microphone questions

I recently bought a SM57 to mic an amp, and I tried it as a harp mic. Wow!
I like it very much; the feedback resistance is way better than the bullet
mics I normally use. The tone is brighter and more articulate, which sounds
great in some contexts. I have a couple of questions:

1. I don't have XLR inputs on any of my amps, so I am using the basic Radio
Shack 17-dollar XLR to 1/4 inch low-to-high impedence adapter. Is there a
better option out there? Is there any need for a better option?

2. What about handling noise on the SM57? I know lots of great players use
this mic, and I know Greg Heumann has a solution that involves fixing the
rotating grill to the element so it won't move. Are there simpler
solutions? Can I wrap it up in duct tape like Roger Daltrey? I promise I
won't swing it around...
