[Harp-L] The River (correction)

 Someone wrote:
?OK.? I understand what 1st and 2nd positions
are?but the others still baffle me. Are you aware of a comprehensive
discussion of the positions, on line, for dummys? Like what hole does
one draw/blow into?? How does it relate to the circle of fifths (if it
does) or playing in minor keys. ?Am I even asking the question
intelligently?

Yes, you are asking intelligently and yes, they relate to the circle of 5ths.? I should keep a Cirle of Fifths in my harp case for easy reference.?
? What hole you need isn't related to minor keys, per se.? If u the key of the song is in a minor key, u just find the proper hole/note on the harp.
? Below is a list of the tonic holes for all 12 positions.? Imo, the most practical positions are 1, 2, 3; then 5th, 4th, 12th.? Some players may use 11th position, but i can't say that i ever have played in 11th.
? Get out a circle of 5ths and look at the below list to see how they relate.

Key / position / tonic hole
C=1st - four blow ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ??

G=2nd - 2 draw/six blow ? ? ?

D=3rd - 1draw/four draw? ? ???

A=4th - six draw ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? ??

E=5th - 2 blow/five blow???????

B=6th - seven draw

F#=7th - five Overblow

Db=8th - four draw Bend

Ab=9th - six draw Bend

Eb=10th - four Overblow

Bb=11th - six Overblow

F=12th - five draw / 2 draw, full step bend?

Put another way:
If u play a C harp in 1st pos., you are playing in the key of C. (1st hole blow is a C note.)
If u play a C harp in 2nd pos., you are playing in the key of G. (2nd hole draw is a G note.)
If u play a C harp in 3rd pos., you are playing in the key of D (1st hole draw is a D note.)
If u play a C harp in 4th pos., you are playing in the key of A. (6 draw is an A note.)
If u play a C harp in 5th pos., you are playing in the key of E.? (2 blow is an E note.)
If u play a C harp in 12th pos., you are playing in the key of F.? (5 draw is an F note.)

There is probably a better explanation here: http://www.angelfire.com/tx/myquill/ .? On the left side of the page, click the links that say "Positions" and "Cirlcle of Fifths".? Excellent site, thanks to Mike Will.
? I dont' have time for more right now, or to check what i have written.? We have a hurricane coming.? I'll follow this thread and add when i can, if needed.
