Joe,

Your 3 stage plan for custom instruments sounds good. Just make sure 
that you pay yourself a decent hourly rate for your expertise, which 
includes your overheads.

With regard to optimising the stage 3 instrument for overblows, you 
should only do this for overblow players. No doubt you discuss playing 
styles with your clients before taking orders, if they don't overblow, 
then spend your time optimising the stage 3 instruments in other ways.
