RE: [Harp-L] Stevie, Tony Bennett and telling a musical story

One example of a "story" that comes to my mind is Sonny Terry playing with
Woody Guthrie on the song Lost John.
Guthrie's delivery is (imho) borderline awkward, but he lays out a narrative
of a man running for his life.
Then..., Sonny Terry (again imho) somehow manages to put in all the emotion,
all the fear/hopelessness that man might have been feeling... Not to mention
the terrain he might have been running through in what he does with the
harp.
At other times, when I've heard Sonny Terry "whoop" and such, my inherent
reaction was "He's camping it up!!"...
But for some reason, in this case, it doesn't feel that way to me at all.
In that song, his whoops, all the cunning artifices he executes on the harp
are somehow credible testaments to... Well... "John's loss"...

So never mind the singers - if story telling is a measure of musical skill,
who are the great story tellers on harmonica?
My vote is for Sonny Boy II
