[Harp-L] Re: Removing Valves on the Hohner Auto-Valve
Hello, Hannessch.
The Hohner Marine Band Full Concert (no valves) and the Hohner Auto Valve
Harp (valved) are identical harps, except for the valves.
In general, valved harmonicas have a more airtight seal, and produce a more
controlled sound. In this description, controlled doesn't mean weaker or
thinner, but more pure, and less effort, with less air leakage.
If you remove the valves from a Auto-Valve Harp (not recommended), you will
notice a more "breathy" sound.
Try the Auto Valve a few weeks before you consider removing the valves.
