[Harp-L] Re:Must read prices
Last time I just said contact if interested. I will put the price, just
these 10 then to the regular prices you can check prices on. Sonny Jr 410 for
$1495, Tuki cover included, and 1295.00 same cover. I had received good
responses, contact Gary Smith. I dont have a big data base, never did learn that.
But for those prices , you know the amps, can't go wrong.

Still plays, but the old first-generation plastic-comb Kratt Hit Parade is
back on the shelf, for viewing and occasionally playing purposesly only. I can
not perpetuate this harmonica by taking it apart to replace reeds, so I'm
not gonna play it that much.
I took it apart and found out why it plays so well. It's held on by these
little plastic teets that come through the the reedplate, like a plastic rivet,
except it's part of the comb. The holes in the reedplate evidently snapped
onto the teets in assembly, but you can't get it off, so it's not a harp I can
perpetuate, if I blow out a reed, I'm not gonna be able to replace it
without totally changing the harp's nature.
The teets are so numerous, there are numerous ones on the comb teeth. That's
why it plays so well, the reedplates are held at perfect torque and in
numerous places, it's tight. But, you can't take it apart.
Interestingly enough, it appears that Kratt purchased the naked reedplate
from Hohner. It's the Old Standby/Marine Band plate from that period. It has
the three holes on each side for coverplate nails and the Hohner reedplate na
il hole pattern (the nail holes are unused). Kratt put the reeds on himself
evidently because it has these weird rivets that are very tiny and do not go
all the way through the reedplate. It looks like something Rosy the riveter
would use to mount sheet metal on a tiny B17, not a harmonica rivet.
I really like this harp, it's a shame... I wanted to play it a lot. It had a
solid plastic comb, like the 1847 silver.

Winslow,
I started off playing chromatics in different keys, but fell into a
rut. My improvised lines starting sounding too similar. A jazz
musician friend urged me to force myself to play every tune on a C
chromatic, regardless of the key. This was the best advice I ever
received.
It was very challenging at first, and I had to practice scales in
various keys. Eventually, however, I learned that each key has its
own strengths and weaknesses; each key suggests different riffs as
being more natural than others. Then I learned to âcross-pollinateâ--
translating what I learned in one key to others, making a few natural
modifications. As a result of playing all keys on a C chromatic, my
improvising became far more interesting, and my musical vocabulary
greatly expanded. Donât know if this approach will work for
everyone, but it sure worked for me.
Today, I rarely switch chromatics and often attend jams with only a C
chromatic. The only time I consider switching to other keys this is
when Iâm trying to play the head to a tune that is played very fast
and in an awkward key. The bluegrass tune, Rebecca, for instance, is
usually played in the key of B and is typically played ridiculously
fast. Unless Iâve just consumed a Doppio Macchito, Iâll switch to a
B chromatic.

Did my 4th performance at Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops this
time. Rehearsal sucked, concert was great!!! Nice to have the
harmonica stand up to any instrument in the Orchestra and come out
equal. Well, better than some!!!
Saw Toots picture in the New York Times receiving the NEA award as a
great jazz player. This has to be the most recognition any harmonica
player has ever gotten to promote the status of the instrument. With
George Benson, Jimmy Cobb, Lee Konitz, âSnookyâ Young, âTootsâ
Thielemans and Rudy Van Gelder - I mean how is it to be in that crowd
and among other jazz greats.
We owe a lot to that genius, Toots Thielmans, for taking our

Brother Suave,
We are busy with setting up a pay-pal account for Matyas's albums. In the
meantime you can listen to samples both at
www.matyaspribojszki.com
and at
www.myspace.com/matyaspribojszki
Hopefully in two weeks it will work.
Regarding my CDs, I have to disappoint you. I have none. Sorry, I have but I
don't play on any of them. I just own them.
But as long as I live we cannot exclude the possibility that I will record a
CD for the benefit of humankind.
Thanks for the inquiry, we let you know when CDs are available through
Pay-Pal.
best regards

Here's an interesting video featuring some understate harp playing.
Katie Melua and an unidentified harp player -- looks like stacked harps to
get all the notes in this blues-type song standard.

Looking forward to hearing it!!!!
One of those rare cases is Finn Hauge, who I've heard play on a Jimmy
Rosenberg album ("Portrait of Jimmy Rosenberg") -- he does a great job,
making the chrom sound quite natural in the gypsy swing context.

The harp players name is Justin Sandercoe who is primarily a guitarist.
That tune can easily be played on one harp. I don't know why he would
be stacking harps it. It doesn't really seem to add anything to the
performance.

I have enjoyed some of the sound clips of Matthias Broede.
For example:

and

see the page:

Does he fulfill the requirements you lay out, would you say? (I ask
with no sarcasm, irony or anything, just wonder what you think.)
