Re: [Harp-L] Slowdown software

Hey, just thought I'd mention that the newest version
of Windows Media Player will let you slow down a track
"on the fly" and DOES NOT affect the pitch at all. In
fact, I've been slowing down tracks, then using a
stereo to mono splitter from the head phone jack of my
computer to send the signal to my digital chromatic
tuner (one of those small korg ones) while I listen in
with headphones, and try to play along. I use a chart
of the notes for the specific key harp I am using to
translate the notes showing up on my tuner to blow and
draw hole numbers on my harp. It's been a very
successfull method for me.
Just an aside: I'm a huge open source software fan,
and I LOVE Audacity for what it is--an absolutely
fantastic digital audio recording and post processing
suite. But, as much as it pains me to say so, windows
media player just blows Audacity out of the water IN
THIS ONE RESPECT. Also, media player IS free, so no
matter what you feel about microsoft, you can't say
that they are ripping you off with this one.
By the way, If you want a free "live signal"
editor--one that you can actually play through, using
your computer as if it were an inline audio efects
generator--check out "Kristal Audio Engine". There is
a slight lag time on my laptop when using it live, but
a faster machine should do better. You guys will
probably really like this piece of software.

Cheers,

Isaac
