[Harp-L] Melodica to the rescue
Just when you thought it was safe to out in the weather, along comes this
spam from Music123.com
FYI: Melodicas can be played with a trumpet-style mouthpiece or a
whistle-style mouthpiece. Only one blues guy uses one OF THESE in his performance and he
has owned his since Hohner first started selling then and has the
company-produced pickup that lets his "mouth-harp" sound like a Hammond B-3!
Plus, you don't have to worry about right or left tongue-blocking....

A weekly cekebration of the odd, extravagant, outrageous, exceptional,
creatively different, and truly bizarre stuff floating around in Music123's gear

Hohner HM-32 32-Key Melodica
The duck-billed platypus of the musical instrument world, the Melodica seems
like it must be the result of a long-since-forgotten practical joke.
How else do you explain an instrument that you blow like a horn or recorder,
hold like a trumpet, play like a keyboard or accordion, and sounds like a
cross between a harmonica and a squeezebox?
It's just bizarre. But here's the kickerâit sounds cool! It's got a unique
sound that is miles away from being as bad as you'd think it would be.
I'm not saying you'll want to run out and start a Melodica band, but it's a
killer sound for carrying the melody of a slightly offbeat pop song, providing
solo accompaniment for a vocal break, or even jazzy jamming.
Search YouTube for "melodica" for some real eye-opening videos.
There's even a clip of Medeski, Martin and Wood throwing down onstage with a
Melodica, and no one is pointing and laughing.
Rock that Melodica, baby!
