I've been reading Dave Payne's posts on the chord harmonica with interest. Deron Cavaletti, the head of the East Bay Harmonica Club (affiliated with our SFBayharpers Yahoo Group) has a chord harmonica and we're working up a harmonica band with EBHC.
I just bought a Hohner bass harmonica via Slidemeister.com and am eagerly awaiting its arrival so I can see how it can be worked into our effort. Peter Sproul and Marty Parker are the two other members of the band.
I used to play electric bass, so I'm at least somewhat familiar with playing bass lines. My question is, is there instructional material out there specifically for bass harmonica? Otherwise, I guess its just a matter of having Big Ears for bass lines in recorded music and jamming along till I acquire some chops. Hey, maybe at last I WILL be able to play along in bluegrass jams! They're way too fast for me on any other instrument (except maybe ukulele, and then only for chop-chording a la mandolin).
