Thanks for the tip. a complication with my situation is that the tip of the slide
broke off and was lost with the original button. That can be seen in one of the
photos here

Those photos show that I was able to straighten the slide (by a method suggested
by SmoJoe), and also an unsatisfactory hot-glue button. Fortunately, thanks to
Dave Payne, I am expecting a replacement slide with button in the mail tonight,
in time for my TV spot tomorrow morning and the CD release party Friday
