I would also recommend Brendan Power's book "Irish Music on the Blues
Harp" available from his site http://www.brendan-power.com It has tab
for a number of tunes, which are played slow and up to speed. It also
outlines Brendan's approach to ornamentation, and much else besides.
While you're there, get a copy of "New Irish Harmonica". If you've not
heard Brendan before, this CD will blow you away.
Recently I mentioned a Chinese harmonica teaching site that I have put
together. I will be releasing an English version next month. In addition
to (very) detailed instructions on playing traditional tunes on
harmonica, it also has 20 traditional tunes, each comprising
- Score (i.e. dots and chords)
- Harmonica tab
- Tune at full speed, played by me
- Band in a Box backing at full speed and half speed
- A midi version of the tune at half speed
When learning tunes, I think it is best to put away the tab as soon as
possible, and play along, at half pace to start with, then at a slowly
increasing speed. This is how I learn all of my tunes. The midi version
of the tune is used to for the slower versions
