RE: [Harp-L] Dangerous harp -- not
Exactly. I don't think too many kids, having heard that would say "wow I
want to sound like that, I want to go buy a harmonica!" not when you
have the incredible solos popping out on that show from the excellent
guitarists, keyboard players, horn players, etc. he might as well have
been playing a bagpipe or accordion - badly (don't jump on me, I love
those instruments when they're played well - but they sound just as bad
or worse than harmonica when played badly...)
Plus every time we tell someone we play harmonica, that "sound" is what
comes to their mind. Yeah we could play and "show them" but often this
comes up in situations where you can't just bust out a harp, or you
never get the chance.
Doesn't matter, thought. We certainly have bigger problems than this in
these days, just turn on the news. Just keep playing and enjoying it for
your own pleasure. I doubt this kid cost any of us our chance to fame
and fortune, haha.

Player."* *Phil Lloyd*
Perhaps that's exactly the problem that some people on this list
have....that most people don't know the difference. Hell, lots of
musicians are so disdainful of harmonica players that they don't know
the difference. If I may speak for myself, at least, huzzah if this guy
encourages more kids to pick up the harp, but how has it helped if this
is what people think a harmonica player sounds like.
