Re: [Harp-L] Dangerous harp

I'm making it one of my life-long quests to speak out against poor harmonica playing in public. I'm sure I'm preaching to the converted on this list, but I'll rant a little anyway. . .

We need to educate as many people as we can. In our overly politically correct world, we're expected to just sigh and say, "well, he's doing his best". We're expected to accept a world-view where the harmonica is a toy, or a simple-to-learn instrument.

Well, I don't buy it. There is enough evidence to prove that there is a difference between poor and decent harmonica playing. Just like other instruments, we deserve respect. Unfortunately, we have an arrmy of millions (consiting of both the un-harp-educated public, and a multitude of harmonica "owners") to combat. It may be a battle that is never won, but we can all help.

We can keep learning. We can keep practicing. We can step up and say to our peers, "hey, that guy has no business playing harp on tv." If we're ever going to get respect, we'll have to earn it, and fight for it.

Sorry for the rant. The subject really strikes a nerve with me.

I was gonna post on this, but didn't want to admit to a moment of weakness
watching AI. It was hideous - during the pre-song interview, he admitted to
not playing any instruments, but he had someone teach him enough harmonica
in the past couple days so he could perform.......in front of millions of
people.....

no respect, I tells you.....no respect......he wouldn't do that with a
cello......
