Was James King black by any chance? I seem to remember hearing a tape of him doing a gig with Ernie Hawkins [Ernie was playing a lot of electric blues in those days...early 80s]...if it's the guy I'm thinking of, he was a very funky, soulful player; not a ton of technique, but a very good bluesman...
shame he passed so young.
