Bill Evans, about as great a pianist as there ever was, spoke about going 
to Jazz camp when he was a teenager, and how there were other kids his age 
who seemed to pick up everything effortlessly, while he had to work hard as 
heck for what he learned.  I believe he referred to it using the metaphor 
of having to learn what each rope and lever did.
Having to work hard for it is a good thing.
At least I presume it is.
