diatonic tablature for the chromatic scale)
John said,
As for software, a call to MakeMusic, Inc. confirms that Allegro has
a scanner module that converts scanned sheet music images to Finale
files. And if that module does not do a good enough job of recognizing
notation, then the third-party producer of that module, Musitek, sells
more powerful versions, e.g. SmartScore Professional.
Vern replies,
I have struck out often trying to scan fake-book notation using Allegro.
Even when a scan has been partly successful, it requires lots of
time-consuming editing. I haven't yet coughd up the extra cash for
SmartScore Pro. I haven't ever been to a studio session, (and don't ever
expect to) but I understand that what they hand you is often hand-written or
grossly marked-up. Lots of luck scanning that!
The abilities of studio musicians are awesome. Unless I could read and hear
the music in my head, then regurgitate it immediately at tempo on harmonica
in the written or any other key, I wouldn't accept a studio gig. I have
performed a few times in public but only after practicing for weeks or
months.
