I use digital performer (motu) with the motu interface.
I have a power mac g4 and the 20inch Imac.The Imac intel is so fast. I also use finale allegro and peak.

The big difference sa mentioned is in the mikes that studios have.

This was done at a friends house with peak on a mac note book. There were no overdubs. This was on one or two takes. I used a high end akg mike I think it goes for 
no less than $1500.00.
