thanks for the kind words, Ev. I'm glad you (and your friends) enjoyed the evening...
But let it be known that it wasn't even close to a Gus, sensu stricto. You didn't have a harmonica, you weren't playing from the audience, you sure didn't jump onstage with a harp in your mouth...it was purely a case of your friends being completely unaware of stagefront etiquette. They should be the ones apologizing, not you.
the bar in question on South St in Philly is Lickety Split, on the corner of 4th and South. I was playing with Buck Hunter and the Pig City Porkrollers, and we play a mix of blues, bluegrass, and old timey stuff that is pretty much all originals, and quite idiosyncratic in terms of arrangement and structure. The idea of letting someone who has no clue of the tunes try to jump in and trainwreck the whole thing brought chills to our spines, brrrrr.....
but hey, no harm, no foul...
