Yep. It's one of those urban legends that sprout up to convey a message.. it serves to illustrate Lincoln as a simple man, how we want to remember him, but it's not true, I don't recall ever having seen a politician whip out a harmonica and start gussing a debate. People at the Lincoln/Douglas debate probably would have thought he was a jackass if he had done it.   
 It's a George Washington chopping down the cherry tree.
